Oil Pastel on Paper

The artwork I created was influenced by variations of artists. Originally, the idea was to complete a finial is acryl, however that changed after experimenting with oil pastels. Although there was no artists research conducted, the free hand drawing allowed me to experience the texture, colours and shape. I went with cartilage paper, as I found that it work best with the media I was using. I also used a tissues or my figure to create a blurring effect. I decided to create this art work to be a portrait due to the fact that last semester, the main focus was landscapes, therefore I wanted to try out something different. I also wanted to learn the different facial expression and colour meanings, that would help me develop better skills, in case of the possibility of during this subject next year. Throughout the drawing of my portrait, I found it difficult to free draw the facial features in a short amount of time. This was solved by printing the picture to become A3, and tracing the features on to paper. This allowed me to obtain more time to focus on the tones and layout of the drawing. I also found that drawing was much easier in my opinion, than painting. I found that I was hard to paint the smaller facial features with the brushes, as I felt I had less control. Something I dislike about my art is the jumper. I found it looks a bit out of proportion and the stokes used may the figure winder. Overall, I really like to colour scheme I went for, as it helps create a abstract but realistic piece I was aiming to achieve.
