The Australian Outback
Acrylic on Canvas
30 x 40 cm
2021
The Australian Outback is an acrylic on canvas landscape which incorporates and enhances the natural beauty of the land which can go un-noticed and un-appreciated a lot of the time.
Michael Hodgkins was the main artist that I explored throughout the process of completing my final. The use of vibrant and bright colours, the rough techniques, and rough texture was incorporated into my work as well.
The biggest influence of my work was defiantly the harsh and soft elements within the rural Australian landscape and was something I was passionate about when considering what my final piece should include. I wanted to be able to paint something I was passionate about, while also showing how beautiful and detailed the bare land of Australia really is. The aim of the artwork was to capture a still life moment alongside of a deserted highway, capturing the ghostly environment within the middle of a desert.
During the process of completing this work I was able to gain a large understanding of the importance of layering different colours, for different effects. The Australian Outback successfully shows my understanding how to incorporate a one-point perspective into a landscape scene, and also the technique of effects, slight blending of clouds. Throughout the process, I had decided to incorporate some different yellows and light browns within the bushes to give it the illusions of dense flora and the angle of sunlight.
The Australian Outback captures the important and hidden elements within the rural land of the country we call home. When other people view this artwork, I am hoping they also see the hidden elements within the landscape.
